It goes without saying that looking after your Nomad & Nest products will prolong their life not just for you but for anyone you pass then on to. We’ve been doing this long enough to know that our products simply get better with age – just like a good old faithful pair of jeans. Likewise, we want you to really enjoy your Nomad & Nest products and not be over protective so here’s a few tips on how to care and how to cherish.
All leather products excluding Shoppers
The leather we use is a natural analine leather with a natural wax finish. It doesn’t have any nasty protective chemical coating so the leather will mark with use. When you first receive your Nomad & Nest products the cut hide will have lots of loose crumb-like fibres from the crust (the underside) of the hide. Your Nomad & Nest products will carry on shedding in its very early days of use because it’s is a natural material - but it really doesn’t do it for long. Over time and with use the leather will change, often darkening, become richer & softer with a patina that enhances its character. The leather we use for our products has a high tensile strength. It’s resistant to tearing, its soft supple and light weight. It’s warm, comfortable and of high quailty to last a lifetime.
- Stains: Our leather is naturally finished, it’s still a little absorbant, , it will get scratched, it will mark, it will stain from dark denim to everyday wear to the odd little accident. We believe it’s all character building. However, if something does get spilled on the leather wipe off immediately with a soft cloth dampened with water only. This should stop the spillage being absorbed below the surface of the leather. Gently buff with a soft dry cloth.
- General cleaning: Wipe gently first with a soft damp cloth followed by a light buff with a soft dry cloth. Do not use nail varnish, methalated spirits. white spirits, general-purpose stain removers, saddle soaps, oils or any other chemical or solvent based cleaner. They’re all bad for the leather and bad for the environment.
- Abrasion: very occasionally vac the inside of your bag using a soft brush attachment – it’s often the gritty stuff that wears the material out.

We use a random mix of leathers to make our Shoppers and we never really know what off-cuts we’re going to get our hands on. The type of leathers used range from full analine to semi analine to nubuck with a variety of finishes from pigment to natural wax finishes.

Leather Caerdydd Armchair
This is certainly one product that we feel ‘ages to perfection’. The leather we use is the same high quality natural analine leather with a natural wax finish we use on most of our other products. It doesn’t have any nasty protective chemical coating or protective treatment so the leather will mark with use and it will absorb the oil from your hands and your head. Over time and with use the leather will change, often darkening, become richer & softer with a patina that enhances its character. The leather we use for our products has a high tensile strength and is fit for high useage. It’s resistant to tearing, its soft supple, it’s warm and its seriously comfortable. It will last a lifetime and just get better and better with age.
- Vacuming: It’s important to remove any gritty stuff as this is the worse abrasive offender! Regularly lift off the seat cushion and vac the seat platform and the underside of your cushion. Use the slim nozzle attachment to vac down between the sides of the seat plaform and the inside arms and the inside back. Using a soft brush attachment gently and lightly vac the rest of the chair avoiding marking or scratching the leather with heavy pressure.

- Plumping: As much as the Caerdydd Raw armchair looks its best when it’s relaxed and thoroughly lived in we still recommend a good old fashioned plumping of cushions. The seat cushion is filled with feathers that will naturally migrate when sat on. Leaving the cover and standing the cushion upright on one of its sides letting gravity do its thing simply give the cushion a good shake. Repeat on all sides until the feathers are evenly dispersed inside.
Now curl up in your Caerdydd Raw armchair with a well earned cuppa and a bourbon biscuit!
